Typically, guest books are traditionally used at any occasion for guests to sign and write special messages for you to reminisce over all the love and memories for years to come. Some trends include digital guest books to be printed later, printed canvas or posters that are ready to hang, sentimental items such as old records, photo frames and old books. Whilst most of the newer trends include Polaroid prints or shadow boxes, luxurious guest book albums are definitely on the rise and my absolute favorite.
This album was designed for Fabien and Raquel with images from their engagement session. Phew, let me just say how much I have loved designing this album. Samantha’s talent is immaculate! She perfectly captured this gorgeous couple’s engagement session and working with her images was absolutely amazing!
The couple chose a 20x15cm (A5) professional layflat album with a personalized, printed cover, textured black end-sheets and thick pages. All my layflat albums are handcrafted with the finest products to ensure optimal viewing pleasure in the finest quality, luxury album available.
Below, you can see the entire album design and some lovely images of the finished product received from Sam.
What I love most about this album design is the simplistic style, adding all the emphasis on the images! The shoot took place during the “golden hour” and oh my, the colours are truly magnificent.
A lot of white space was used throughout this album design to ensure that their guests had ample space to sign their guest book album.
The inner photographic pages are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Professional Lustre paper and features a very natural photographic finish reminiscent of traditional photographic printing. Coated with a slightly stippled texture, Lustre prints are very resistant to fingerprints, scratches and scuffs and feature a semi-matt finish with minimal glare.
This album is just so beautiful! Don’t you agree? So for the ultimate longevity of this album, it is absolutely vital to also make use of the correct pens to write in these albums. Well, purely because most inks used in general pens will cause severe damage to the album, especially over time as the inks contain acid.
You need a special, fine art – Sakura Pigma Micron pen which is perfect for writing on the Lustre paper as it has a wide variety of benefits to the paper and is also chemically stable, acid free, waterproof (so no smudging or transferring to other pages / images etc.) and fade resistant. They are rather inexpensive (around R40) and are conviniently available in a variety of weights from your local stationer like PNA, CNA or you can order them directly from Primeart.
If you are a photographer offering engagement sessions to your clients I want to urge you to consider offering these luxury guest book albums to your clients. It is a great way to get your clients to print their images and will also help promote you without doing the physical marketing!
